Hiromi Hatada, 94, of Hilo died Oct. 19 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Fujinkai. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Tuesday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by husband, Shunichi Hatada of Hilo; sons, Wesley (Gayle) Hatada of Hilo and Maurice Hatada of Honolulu; daughter, Frances (Glenn) Sadayasu of Hilo; brothers, Kiyoshi (Tomiko) Matsuoka of Anaheim Hills, Calif. and Hisashi (Emiko) Matsuoka of Hilo; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Nalani Eleanor Rita “Lani” Markell, 50, of Hilo died Oct. 11 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama facility. Born in Honolulu, she was a legal assistant for the state Attorney General, a freelance artist and photographer, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kaumana Ward, Kamehameha Schools Alumni Association, The Ship for World Youth #1, and Hawaii Government Employees Association. Private services. Survived by parents, Elliott R. Markell Jr. and Mona M.A. Markell of Volcano; sister, Moana V.C. (Samuel K. III) Molale of Hilo; brother, Elliott R. “Kai” (Michiyo) Markell III of Honolulu; nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Virginia Trelma “Sister Matt” Mathison (Kelch), 86, of Volcano died Oct. 16 at home. Born in California, she and her husband founded the Volcano Assembly of God church and also led Kona Gospel Chapel, Haleiwa Assembly of God on Oahu, and Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Hilo. Funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Volcano Assembly of God. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Aloha attire; no flowers. Memorial contributions to Volcano Assembly of God (memo: Missions). Alexandria “Sandra” “Sandy” Kiu Hee Sakai, 72, of Wahiawa, Oahu, died Oct. 12 in Wahiawa.
